Enjoy a collection of fascinating, historic pieces of Los Angeles architecture that were built as private residences. This American Foursquare house (with Richardson Romanesque influences) was designed by famed architect Frederick L. Roehrig in 1895. One of the oldest surviving Roehrig houses, it was situated on the ultra-fashionable “Millionaire's Row” in Pasadena.

Just five months after he and his family moved in, he was found shot to death by his longtime friend, Hugh Plunket. Through a selling of the estate and mansion to different developers and eventually the City of Beverly Hills, the entire grounds were dedicated as a public park in 1971 and is also the site of the city’s largest reservoir. (6 p.m. Daylight Savings) for a stroll around the majestic estate and gardens. Built by land baron Elias Jackson “Lucky” Baldwin, this delightful cottage is nestled in the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. On the outside, the 1885, stick-style architecture makes this summertime playhouse look like it’s made of candy. The wraparound porch affords splendid views of what was once Lucky’s beloved Santa Anita Ranch.

Richard and Dion Neutra VDL House, Los Angeles

Some say it was the first modern house to respond to California's unique climate, serving as the prototype for the distinctive California style that developed in the early twentieth century. Today it's open as a museum, located in Malibu Lagoon State Park and open to the public for guided tours. Phineas had rows of eucalyptus trees planted to surround the house, and the estate also boasted a large library, many imported furnishings and tapestries, and its very own artesian well. Only two miles from the port of Wilmington, this home soon became the first place encountered by many travelers to Los Angeles. The home was also the site of frequent “regales,” where champagne was “always on tap” and guests danced in the extra-wide downstairs hallway.

Perry Mansion

It's one of my favorite places to go in LA and especially beautiful at twlight. You can also take a regularly scheduled tour of the Schindler-designed Mackey Apartments which are nearby. This house is in an area of the Silver Lake neighborhood called The Colony, where you'll find a number of Neutra designs on and around Neutra Place.

Formally known as Case Study House No. 8, the Eames House is a Mid-Century Modern architectural landmark located in Pacific Palisades. It was built in 1949 by renowned husband-and-wife designers Charles and Ray Eames, to serve as their home and studio. The couple moved into the house on Christmas Eve, 1949 and lived there the rest of their lives.

Outside again, the mansion has its own glass-walled jogging court, tennis court, and this putting green.

Photos of the house at its original location show a mansion high on a hill, lined by magnificently landscaped trees. Today it sits flat near the entrance gates of Heritage Square Museum. This delightful 1886 Pasadena home is a charming example of the Folk Victorian style of architecture. These dollhouse like houses were much more functional than most Victorian styles, with family-friendly, regular floor plans and a lack of ornamentation—perfect for hardworking, everyday people.

In the next room over, there's a private bowling alley.

Greene did not name anyone she thought could cobble enough votes together to win the speakership if her effort is successful. That has been a major concern among Republicans who recognize that their inability to agree on much of anything could jeopardize their ability to elect a conservative as speaker again. Democratic leadership has pledged to support a motion to table, effectively killing the measure. Greene has said she will formally introduce a motion to vacate next week. Trump’s involvement may not be necessary as a majority of Republicans plan to vote with a sizable amount of Democrats to prevent Johnson’s ouster and avoid plunging the House into uncertainty. Greene’s escalation has further divided the deeply fractured Republican conference, with lawmakers eager to move past their internal rancor and focus on retaining their slender House majority in November.

The public is invited to visit the Eames House for a self-guided tour of the exterior during open hours. Groups with 10 or more visitors must make an appointment and sign a group release form prior to visiting. Guided, one-hour personal tours of the interior are available for $275 (1-2 adults) and $450 (3-4 adults). Diehard fans can indulge in an Eames tradition, a picnic in the house meadow, for $750 (1-4 adults).

Its influential sound and impact on popular culture have earned it a place among the most memorable songs of the 1980s. “In My House” catapulted The Mary Jane Girls to stardom, firmly establishing them as one of the prominent acts of the 1980s. The success of the song led to more opportunities and paved the way for their subsequent hits. Although the group disbanded in the late 1980s, their music continues to be enjoyed by fans worldwide. Upon its release, “In My House” climbed the charts swiftly, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

A reaction to fussy Victorian styles, American Foursquare emphasized boxy lines, “honest” carpentry and plain facades. It is considered a cousin to both the Prairie and Craftsman styles of architecture. Built circa 1888, this charming middle-class Glendale house is a combination of the popular Queen Anne and Eastlake styles of architecture. Four doctors lived in the home over the years, as did the early movie star Nell Shipman.

The song provides a sonic escape, allowing listeners to indulge in the emotions conveyed by the lyrics and immerse themselves in a sensuous atmosphere, making it a perennial favorite on playlists and dance floors around the world. One interesting fact about “In My House” is that Prince, a renowned musician and contemporaneous artist, worked closely with Rick James in shaping the sound and production of the song. This collaboration added an extra layer of musicality and helped create the distinctive groove that defines the track. “In My House” has had a lasting influence on contemporary music, particularly in the R&B and dance genres. Its infectious rhythm and memorable melodies have been sampled and interpolated by various artists, further cementing its status as a musical gem. While “In My House” did not receive any major awards, the song is highly regarded by music enthusiasts and critics alike.

Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), who chairs the largest factions of conservatives in the Republican Study Committee, said Trump wants Republicans to focus on bigger issues and not get sidetracked with feuding. “Let’s get focused on winning in November, keeping the House, taking the Senate and having the White House in January and really run hard to get a lot of great things done for Americans,” he said. Located in the South Bonnie Brae Historic district, this multicolored wonder is on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Built in 1894, it perfectly exemplifies the Victorian dictum of “more is more,” and is a combination of Richardson Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Moorish Revival styles. For the new money of boomtown Los Angeles, this exuberant combination of styles helped signal to neighbors that the owner had really arrived. It was during the Victorian era, from 1837 to 1901, that Los Angeles transformed from a small, dusty Mexican outpost into a Gilded Age American boom town. Thousands of homes were built during this time, and though many were lost, the structures mapped here survive. The Missions and Ranchos are a special designation of historic homes that have such a unique position in telling the history of southern California that they deserve a separate page. The allure of “In My House” lies in its timeless appeal, which continues to resonate with listeners today.

In 2007, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) listed the Stahl House as one of the top 150 structures on its "America's Favorite Architecture" list, one of only 11 in Southern California, and the only private residence on the list. The Stahl House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. Apart from “In My House,” The Mary Jane Girls are known for their hit songs like “All Night Long,” “Candy Man,” and “Wild and Crazy Love.” These songs also showcase the group’s unique blend of R&B, funk, and pop music. When I look at what happened, it didn’t stop the airplay.… What it did stop was our consideration for the awards that I think any other artist of our stature or our popularity would have gotten … Our song had the potential and was on its way to being No. 1. "In My House" is a song produced, written and arranged by American musician Rick James and recorded by his protégées, the Mary Jane Girls, for their second studio album, Only Four You (1985).
